The Great Lakes are the largest body of fresh water in the world. The Asian Carp have now invaded and they will decimate the ecosystem, fishing and recreational boating. This is the worst thing that has happened to the Great Lakes since industrial pollution!!

They need to chemically poison and kill every connected waterway to the great lakes that has the carp. It's like cancer. If you had cancer in your leg, you would cut off your leg to prevent it from spreading, wouldn't you? Why aren't the authorities doing this?
It isn't possible! They would have to poison the entire Mississippi basin at this point, not to mention the area in Toronto that they are talking about. I heard stories years back of people throwing Asian carp into Toronto waterways.
Misleading video. They don't eat everything and they are not predators. Filter feeders. They were also brought here to be raised on fish farms. The flood of 96 put them in the Mississippi. Think about all the invasives already in the great lakes, both species of mussels, blood shrimp, spiney water flea, alewives, shad, there is a large biomass of invasives the carp would have to directly compete with. They also need Rivers to spawn in. Take over? Most of the aforementioned were supposed to do that. The carp have not decimated the Mississippi, Illinois Rivers and they are well established.
Water temperatures in the northern lakes areas might be too cold for them to actually take over. The biggest negative about them is that motor noise makes them jump and these can become huge fish, and if one hits you, you could have a serious problem.
I fish the Illinois a lot for white bass, and asian carp WILL hit lures pretty often. Rooster tails, smaller little georges and vibrating metal baits are on the menu. If you catch one, they fight hard!
I can't understand how people who have known of this problem for over twenty years can be so surprised that this has finally happened. Totally relying on an electro-shocking system to keep an intensely self-multiplying scourge of trash fish from entering the Great lakes was a little like trying to broil a steak with a match. It was just a matter of time, and I'm sure they knew it.
It would seem now that the US has the largest source of fertilizer almost freely available on the planet.
