Anyone fishing a Shimano Tranx 400?

Which gear ratio reel are you using? How do you like it?

I use the tranx 400 with the 5.8:1 gear ratio. It has the double paddle handle. I now fish this reel for smaller lures, small bucktails, small crankbaits, etc. I have the reel on a SC Legend Tournament Top N Tail. The reel is smooth, refined, casts great and is easy to palm. I'm a little disappointed however with the power of the reel. Not that I would fish a double 10 on a Top N Tail, but the Tranx cannot handle a double 10 or really any larger bucktail. I was hoping it would. It doesn't have near the power of a Daiwa Lexa 400. Yes I understand the Lexa 400 almost weights a full pound, but they aren't even close in my opinion. I even think my Okuma Komodo with a 6.4:1 gear ratio has more power. So if you're not using it for real hard pulling baits, its worth the money.

I have one with the lower gear, very smooth. I like it for "lighter" duty on a 8'6" MH Premier. My general purpose Luna's aren't getting retired anytime soon.
