    New Fish Locator Advice

    Hi,

I am looking for suggestions/recommendations for a new locator. Looking for a unit in the $500-$700 range with color screen, GPS, etc….

    Thanks for any advice!

I'd suggest a Humminbird Helix 5 or 7 with CHIRP, side imaging, color GPS, leaning toward the 7 because bigger screens are always better. Just under $700 right now.

I had Helix 10s on my boat last year and will again this year. Outstanding features in a dependable unit.

    Steve,
You can probably answer this question: Concerning the Humminbird units that make their own maps, if the unit does not show the lake on the map, (as far as the map is concerned there is not lake there, it shows it as "brown"=land) can you still use Auto Chart Live to create a contour map?
    thanks,

Absolutely. Your AutoChart mapping is recorded on the unit, and you then download it onto a AutoChart Zero Lines map card. AutoChart PC then converts your mapping into a lake map.

Thanks, Steve. Now all I need is a lack of the Affordable Care Act
