Opening Day ... how did you do?

It sounds like the guys who fished walleyes on Saturday did extremely well, and there were some crappies caught, too, though that was spotty.

I also got a few reports of some muskies being caught and released.

    How did you do?

I was still turkey hunting Saturday ... got a bird Thursday morning but had a second tag that ended up going unfilled. On Sunday I fished with my grandsons and they caught some northern pike.

The smallies were on fire. Caught some nice fish including two 19 inchers. Managed a few walleye that were disqualified by the new slot limits. Caught a handful of crappie but they were all small males. I think they will be going in another week or so.

The overcast skies allowed for a couple fish to get caught on Wingra. I got a 41" in my boat and a 33" was caught in a friends boat. We only had one other follow by a 33"-34" class fish. We figured it was due to the clearing skies. We left at about 2:00 with many other boats doing the same thing. Water temps ranged from 59.1 on the west to 62.2 on the east. Not as many boats on Wingra as there used to be a few years ago. The weeds have really put a damper on that lake's popularity. The cabbage was everywhere but unfortunately, it will continue to choke out as the season progresses. A good start to the Wisconsin season.
