    Vise for coil springs

Having issues with spring coils popping out of my vise while tying marabou or flashabou skirts. I need to get a better vise. Any tips for vises or jaws for vises that will hold the coils well?

You may not need a new vise. Cut a piece of bucktail wire (thicker diameter the better) and bend it to an L on one end. Slip the coil onto the wire shaft and insert the wire shaft into the vice and tighten. The L on the end will keep the coil from spinning when tying the marabou or flashabou. This seems to work for me without anything popping out when tying.

Needle nosed vise grips about 6" long. Grab the coil with those and put the grips in the vise to tie...works every time.

I use a small allen wrench in lieu of the bucktail wire.. just another idea.

I've got some small screw eyes I twist into the coils and clamp in a regular fly vise. Had to grind the eye part a little bit to not over tax the jaws but it works well, Also good for epoxy coating threads etc.

Use the needle nose vise grips in a vise.
