Potential New WV State Record Released

On April 15th Luke King was fishing a local river in WV seeing 3 different pairs of spawning muskies, several of which were in the 40 to 50 inch range. He cast his 10" tube to a brush pile near a drop off and out emerged a spawning pair of muskies. The male was a low to mid 40 inch fish and the female, which was following his bait, was easily a 50 incher. She followed off her spawning partner all the way to the boat and sat under the boat while Luke figure eighted. After a few turns he let the tube fall and jigged it in front of her face. She inhaled the bait and began to swim back to her partner and he set the hook. She ripped off 60 yards of drag and they chased her with the boat to help from losing her. After a good fight he managed to bring her to the boat and net her. She barely fit in the net. They put her on the measuring board, and she was at 53 inches. The girth measurement was 24 1/4 estimating her at 45 pounds. This fish was potentially the state record and without hesitation she was placed back in the water and released. She swam right back to her spawn partner and back to the depths.

Congrats Luke and what an incredible WV musky!

Just an incredible fish right there. And yeah, I'm very happy she went right back in the water. If you don't have the means to safely transport the fish to a certified scale, just put her back. No sense killing the fish IMO.

    Jim:

What happened to "If you don't weigh it you shouldn't say it"?

And by the way, the W VA record is 49 pounds.

The guy never said it was the state record. Just a great musky from WV in a spring that's been extremely cold.

The Great Oz has spoken! Geez Larry, can't anyone just catch a big fish without you putting in your two cents. Come on man.

    Nice fish Luke! Awesome job.

The intention of Jims post was this great catch had the makings of a state record. Period... Larry has become sooo irrelevant that he feels he has to post his nonsense.

Never said it wasn't a great fish...Saric posted the "title" to this thread, I didn't...sheesh!

He also posted "This fish was potentially the state record..."

Saric knows that the formula's over "estimate" fish and the "estimate" was still 4 pounds under the record. Take him to task, not me.
