    Pounder in the Eight

What is your experience (successful or not) with Pounder bulldawgs in the figure 8 during the fall. We have had success in the fall using a slow rise and drop motion with these baits, but have yet to have a musky at the boat following this technique. (We have been lucky because they have always hit the drop) I want to be mentally prepared for a successful strategy using this bait and technique when a pig follows to the boat. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Keeping it deep overall and then ripping it upward on the outside turn is a pretty reliable trigger.

I have ALWAYS wondered what to do if they hit the bull dawg on the 8 and it only gets the tail. Do I give it slack and hope it turns it? The only two I had hit boatside were "violent, shot out of no-where" hits and they engulfed it.

The good news is they seem to hit the head most of the time. I would say if one hit the tail to: look to the sky...say "please eat it better" and then look down to see if it has yet...

I would say one out of 50 guys would have the reactions to give it slack instead of hit it...not easy.

Just make sure to wait until you feel decent weight. I got one last fall that probably went around 10 times before she sucked it in enough to get the rear hook. She had slurped up the just the tail numerous times before that and shredded it but since it was clear water I didn't give her the beans until she found the steel.
