    ranger 692?

Found a ranger 692 I have looked at online and would consider right at the upper edge of my price range...

Thoughts on it vs fish hunter vs targa?

Anyone happen to know of any great deals on 692 rangers?

There aren't many 692s out there. It involved a second, molded-in console. Ranger went to modular styling in 2000 with the 619; modular styling allows second consoles to be added by the dealer at anytime in the boat's life, and not just ordered through the factory.

If the 692 is in your price range, buy it and don't look back. There will be no comparison in fit, finish or resale (when that time comes).

    RE: ranger 692?

I am trying to dial this in and choose a boat - but the more I dig the more questions I have - Isn't that the case most of the time? LOL

Trying to get your opinions on the 95-99 merc 200's as 2 of the boats have 200 EFI and one boat is 175 EFI merc.

I have found 3 boats in my price range
    96 Fish hunter 200EFI 95
    98 Targa 2000 200 EFI 98 with honda kicker
97 692 Ranger with 175 EFI 97 (not positive still available)

These are the hulls I really like but the more I ponder the more I wonder....do I try to find an early 2000's aluminum like a WT with a 150hp or so on it instead (tundra, fish hawk, etc)? I really like to be close to the water for musky and bass though and not a fan of the tall sides and small rear decks.

Heck...do I just go with a bass boat and never troll?

    I appreciate your continued feedback!

    Yep:

and as a side note the EFI models did not generally suffer the problems of the DFI models re blowing up as they ran quite a bit richer both in fuel and oil.

    RE: ranger 692?

I am working hard on the ranger as I have called him 3x yesterday and he called me back last night but missed his call. I left him a msg for him to call me on lunch break today (as he asked me to).

Will a 175HP EFI push a 692 with decent speed at 7000' of elevation?

What kind of fuel efficiency do you think I could presume from a 97 Merc 175 HP EFI?

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!!!!

I can't say what the speed will be at 7,000 feet of elevation, but the 175 will "max out" that boat. That's what the 690s were rated for. It will get you the best speed possible for that rig.

Your fuel efficiency will vary according to how aggressively you run the boat, speed, trim settings, if the boat has recently been tuned up, (sometimes) individual engines, water temperature, load, etc. Those 175 EFIs were pretty good motors and if I remember correctly, you can expect somewhere around 3 miles/gallon at a reasonable planing speed.

The only downside to a Ranger? After owning one, you'll never be able to settle for anything less. ;-)

    RE: ranger 692?

I really appreciate the insight as I finally got ahold of the owner and discussed it with him....it is pretty stripped down (no electronics and old trolling motor) but I think still a good deal.

Going to check on shipping and make a decision.

Also still tossing around the 98 targa with 8hp kicker but not for sure yet.

Thinking I shoudl go with ranger and then repower it in a year or two with a mid 2000's 200hp or so.
