    59 X 29

Just got word of a 59 X 29 musky caught from the St. Lawrence by Capt. Bob Walters. I believe the fish was kept and weighed 56.8 pounds. We'll try and get more details next week. Looking forward to seeing the photos.

Using my iPhone weight calculator application the average of the formulas puts it at 59.39 pounds.

Wow! sounds like a true giant. Nice to hear. Congrats to the angler!

I do think the weight formulas are only sometimes accurate. I've had several 40-45" fish with same lengths and similar girths weigh as much as 8lbs difference. I believe their muscle or fat density contributes to this and, of course, stomach contents. I've never caught any really big muskies, so I don't know if the larger ones are easier to pinpoint. Just somthing I've noticed. Anyway, hope to see some pics of this sea monster. Tim

Wow, what a hog. Looks like a Marlin fishing boat ;) Looks like they needed it for that fish!

That's an awesome fish. Interesting, when I first heard 59X29 without hearing the weight, my inital thought was the fish should easily be a 60+ pounder. However, if you look at the build of the fish although the girth is huge the weight of the musky disappears behind the pelvic fins. The one thing that seems to really give muskies that extra weigh is a large girth, maybe not equivalent to the maximum girth, but a large girth all the way to the anal fin.

The formulas really weren't that far off. I just think if that fish had some more girth behind the pelvic fins it could have been around 63 pounds.

It just shows you have difficult it is to catch a true 60 pounder.

Again, awesome job on catching what probably was the biggest musky caught of the year!

Huge fish and congrats to the angler. Is it 59x29 or 59x28?

Link Mr. Larry Jones posted indicates 59x28 with supplied pictures and 28 girth supports the formulas.
