Why kill a large Musky to mount it

Just a question, if there are the means these days to save a 50" plus fish from the taxidermist, why do anglers still kill fish that are just going to end up as a wall hanger.

With replica casting available, I can't see skin mounting as a reason (even if it's legal) to kill such a magnificent creature. More importantly removing a large fish deminishes the reproductive capability of that lake's Musky population. I've got no problem if you want to eat it, but killing for glory is just plain wrong imo.

    just my 2 cents

    Tubeman,

I don't know how many muskies you've caught or how long you have been around fishing but the fact is every specie of fish has a life expectance,,, sorry I didn't make up the rules,, including the muskie. Also the female of any fish has a time in her life where her eggs are successful in producing fry and a time when she is past her time. "Most" adult,, big fish are past there prime and are no longer successful in reproduction.

I have never intentionally kept a ski for the wall but I wouldn't hesitate if the right fish came along because of the cost involved. Just to give you a little perspective, it would have to be a really big one but after landing more than 1600 fishing for them about 1/2 the season I haven't seen it yet. Some of you guys need to relax.

Those that are so inclined find it hard to mount a live fish. They're slippery and flop around, making it difficult to get the job done.
