    >Wow.....I have been real amazed by the stories about Mr Gelb,
    >and how he row trolls for the giants that he has caught, but
    >after finding out that he is keeping these fish. I have lost
    >all respect for the guy. I can see keeping one trophy over a
    >lifetime but after that they should all go back in the lake
    >for someone else to enjoy too. Man, I would never allow a fish
    >to be kept in my boat and never will. Just over the last 2
    >seasons there has be 47 fish that were 50 inches or bigger
    >caught out of boat. Just think if we kept each and everyone of
    >those fish, those fisheries would be set back for years and
    >any chance of those fish passing on their genetics lost. Some
    >of these legends need to get with the times and quit being so
    >selfish.

You people don't know the real story.....Yes Tom kept his fish of his life time a 53.5 by 28 that weighed 51 pounds that was Tom's bench mark that he wanted to achieve he did so he kept it. Not a big deal. oh and by the way Tom donated the skin mount to George Langleys shop and got 3 replicas made kept one and gave the other two away to local buisness's. Then the next year he caught a 48 pounder that he stood in the freezing water for two hours to try and revive and couldn't so that happens. both of these fish were over 26 years old. So rather than let it be turtle food he took it to Lax as well. he dose not keep fish on a regular basis he catches over 50 a year and puts them all back. He fishes harder in the worst weather then most of you will ever dream of so he kept ONE and had ONE die thats two fish people hes not ruining the ecosystem or runing the big fish populations in these lakes its TWO fish get off the guys back i repeat TWO fish i know some guys proboly still keep fish for whatever reason its not that big of a deal if a guy keeps TWO in thirty years. YA killing a fish every 15 years Tom your a real bastard even though you have released hundereds of 50 inchers before you killed one you bastard!!!!!!!

I think it is just unreal how people just shoot off at the mouth about Gelb keeping fish without knowing the circumstances on why he had a few very large fish that could not be sucessfully released.
It's not like the guy purposely keeps every large fish and I know how badly he felt that he had a few died on him. He has caught more large fish than most here will catch in 10 lifetimes and I guess some people here on this board just cannot accept that and make themselves feel better by bashing his accomplishments. If you ever go to one of his seminars he is one of the nicest guys you could ever meet and his level of knowledge is unbelievable and it is too bad that some will never be able to appreciate this because they are too busy trying to inflate their own ego.
The thing is that the people here with the biggest mouths complaining about keeping fish will indeed some day have a large fish die on them. It happens to everybody eventually but when it happens to them I guarantee no doubt that they will never talk about it on this board because they wouldn't want to damage their PERFECT image that they self project on themselves.

Tom Gelb is a great guy and should be well respected for his angling accomplishments. At least his 51+ lb. fish was proven to be legit which is not the case with the many supposed 50 lb. releases.

Also consider the age of his fish and that it was only 53" long. Thinking it may have grown substantially longer is being very unrealistic.

The crap on this thread is the main reason I don't join in only on rare occasions., and this is one of them. I don't have a lot to say in the matter except that after the amount of years that Tom has fished in all kinds of inclement Weather and the amount of work and the tremendous amount of releases he has put into the Sport that he truly loves and believes in. He has "Earned " the right to keep a fish should he so desire and it is no one else's business but his. Tom has more knowledge about musky than many could ever dream of and has always shared unselfishly.
As far as I am concerned, I stand by Tom Gelb 100 per cent. So now I can be bashed too and it doesn't matter. I am who I am and have to prove nothing to anyone but myself and the same goes for Tom.
I wish you the best Tom just send me another picture when you catch the giant on our secret patterns.

Good words, Stan, about a good man...Tom Gelb. I again say that it's pathetic how some people are so small they can only feel bigger by trying to pull down someone whose shoes they couldn't fit in. Must be a dreary existence for them, to be so unhappy with their own lives.

So true, we have fun with football and other topics, but attacking a person's character, especially when they are not posting here is pretty darn low...Happy Thanksgiving to you all....Oz

He probably doesn't post here because of all of the "fun" you all seem to have here........

Most of it is crap, plain and simple..... If it had ANY value whatsoever, it wouldn't get locked down.

Maybe some of you should think about that ???

And oh yeah, happy thanksgiving. right........

Maybe you should mind your own, comments like yours are mean spirited and aggressive in nature, no place for that type of behavior in the fishing world...oz
