I was at Gander today and saw a recent picture of a guy holding a huge fish. It said that it was 54" and 47 lbs. Its been a few weeks since I have been there so I don't know how recent it was.

I read that the fish actually had dentures. Apparently the jawbone that was found last year matched this fishes head.

How refreshing to see the picture and read the article where the guy that caught the 54 1/2"er said he guessed it weighed 32-34# as it was spawned out, instead of giving some girth and holding it out so it looked like the Goodyear blimp. Impressive fish from a tough lake!

    Hi:

Talked with Daryl yesterday. I've known him for years and he's one of the best guides anywhere. Very unassuming, great sense of humor, and an outstanding fisherman.

The fish was 54 inches long, caught at high noon on Memorial Day, while trolling a Big Game 6-inch Surface Twitch crankbait about 30 feet behind a board. They were fishing over deep weeds in 16 FOW when it hit. Daryl called it a spawned-out female and estimated it to weigh somewhere in the mid 30-pound range.

Angler was Frank Mohr, 81 years young, who fished with a lot of the old-time guides in Hayward and outlived them all, and now fishes with the new generation. He's from Illinois and has a place on LCO.

    Congrats to both.

There was an article about the fish in the Hayward paper, seen the link somewhere but do not have it. Congrats to the angler!

    I love things like this.

That gentleman is very proud of that fish. His expression is absolutely wonderful. I pray that I'm able get out and fish at 81. What a great story and what a great fish.
