Fished the Calhoun chain from 9:30-2 today. Put two Tigers in the boat, 33" and a dink. Cold front is a bit rough, but those two fish were aggressive. Missed a third fish five minutes after catching the dink.

Fished Forest on sunday 6 A.M to 3 P.M. water temps were about 63 deg. we had 9 follows and I lost one that was in the low 40's. All but two fish were slow and lazy. Everything we saw was on shallow bulldawgs in 5 to 8 feet of water.

Moved a handful on FL. No hookups.
One hot one that missed my lure on the eight twice and had one big one up twice.
Most follows pretty lazy/spooky.

Fished bald eagle thurs 1-9:45 pm. Tons of traffic and fisherman, but fish seemed semi-active. Had a low 40s follow a blade in early afternoon and a really hot 40ish fish follow a couple 8s on a blade, but couldn't quite get it to go. Caught a little guy (lower 30s) boatside on top close to sunset and my brother lost something big around 9:30. Also caught a nice bass and had one other hit we never saw. Could have been a lot worse and got the first slime in the boat for the year.

Fished Tonka yesterday 2pm till dark. The majority of the time was actually spent at Fletchers. Great band!

Fished Stubbs, Maxwell, and North Arm with no musky movement to speak of. A few slimy pike found there way into the boat. Threw Mag-Dawgs and smaller inline spinners. May go mess around in the Spring Park area today.

Fish The Hartman Metro tourney Saturday on WBL
Water temps 67ish
high skies and sunny

Moved one fish on a medussa @ about 9 am but could not get her to go. Visited that spot a couple more times and did not see that fish again.

On the way in to the launch just before the end of the tournament I hooked and lost a 45-48 in fish on a pounder. The net was in the water, and i tried to turn her head into it, pop out came the hook.

We managed a couple of northerns, that was about it.

Seemed like kind of a tough bite again this year. Anyone else have a report

53"r out of Waconia

2nd was a 52" It looks like the fish I lost may have put me in the top five had she made it the net and not the side of the boat.

Was on Forest Lake for the Metro Tourney, had 10 follows, 1 blow up on topwater. One blew up on a click-fin in the morning. then 3 follows from mid 30 inch fish on bucktails. Had a 45 inch fish snap at the boat on a bulldawg in 8 feet of water. Had a 50+ follow later in the day then some more follows from mid 30 inch fish. The only interested fish we saw were on slower moving baits. All the others were following real lazy several feet behind baits.

Muskie opener has come bearing gifts. I took out a client for a half day out on Lake Minnetonka. Started off the day windy and rainy. After about an hour of fighting the wind I decided to head across the lake over by Jennings Bay. My client quickly hooked up with his first ever muskie, measuring in at 38". Soon after he hooked into another that muscled his way off the line after a few minutes. About an hour later my client had another muskie that was easily in the high 40's follow up and took a strike at the lure but just got un lucky and he missed it. Overall a very good day out on the lake I must say.

The weekend after muskie opener I took out another 1st time client. All he wanted to do was to get on some muskies. I told him I would do my best and put him on some good fish. About 2 hours into our day he muscled in his 1st ever muskie measuring in at 40". I must say a pretty good first muskie. There is no feeling like watching someone catch their 1st muskie and their biggest fish ever. It is very exciting. Later that day he had another chance at a nice fish but was unable to wrestle him in.

I finally got a day to go out and try some new spots out on Lake Minnetonka. Only after about 2 hours in about 16 ft water I pulled in my biggest muskie of the year. A 48" monster. I was throwing a green cowgirl and bringing it in as fast as I could. I had few spectators as well which was kind of funny they were all taking pictures and yelling. Overall a very exciting catch.

I stayed out on the water for about 4-5 more hours and had 4 more fish follow up cowgirls and bulldawgs but just could not trigger them to bite.

Minnetonka 7/8/09 Evening, strong east/southeast wind. Got one very small one and had a small one on. I don't know what the deal was should have been able to move fish. Found the baitfish just stacked on a couple points, but couldn't find the big girls. I almost wish I had been walleye fishing since I could see those on the graph, I'm almost positive they were walleyes though.

Heading up to fish Forest orBald Eagle this evening. Anyone been out on these lakes lately? Anyone know if there are shallow weeds yet on Forest? Or are the chemicals they dumped in last year winning the battle? Fished Bald Eagle earlier this year and it was very clear water. Has it become stained yet. Just trying to figure which lake to give a crack at this weekend. Thanks.

Was out early Saturday morning at 2:30 and had some good action on Forest Lake. Had some real big blow ups on topwaters and ended up boating 3 on topwaters measuring 32,35, and 35. One was on a Click-Fin and the other two on Large Pacemakers. Had around 7 blow ups with no fish on the other end. All the action was between 3-4:30. Didn't have any other hits until the sun came up when I boated a 42 inch on a figure 8 with a #10 bladed bucktail hair. All fish were caught in the 2-5 foot range in thick weeds. I wish there were more size to them but I'll take 4 muskies in a morning any day.

I was at the WBL Ramsey Cty landing Sat night. There are big signs that say the ramp area will be closed for restoration from July 19th to Aug 14th.

Fish WBL from 8-10 pm. One small fish blew up on a topwater just after sunset. Water temp was 66 in mid July! wow.

Fished Forest Sunday 7-10 pm. Lost a mid 30's on a dawg in about 11'. Water temps 68 and there were prety good weeds out to about 12' - never seen that before in July either!!!

I've been off the water for more than a month - good to finally be back out there - and then I see the WBL ramp is going to be closed for a month. bummer.

I have not hit eagle yet this year but apparently I have to get up there. I kind of hate the launch there but sounds like it is worth it. Fished forest the past 2 weekends with only 2 38 inchers to show for it. Saw 3 other ones. Still trying to figure out that lake for the tourny this weekend. There was a bass tourny out there last weekend and the anglers were a pretty good source of info for muskies that they had seen throughout the day. Hopefully this weekend is the prime time.

Saw One fish She came in low and slow on a Pounder.

Water temps ranged from 70.5 to 72.5

I saw one fish steal a walleye guys Shad rap on a spectacular jump. Nice looking fish 40in's maybe.

Hit Johanna for a couple hrs for the first time this yr - got a 38 and lost a 2nd. Fish ate bulldawgs along a deep weedline (there's a lot of weeds out to 13-15' this yr - water temp was 77 and about 2-3' clarity)

Went to Calhoun this morning...got about 20 minutes in and the electric went to crap. Didn't see any and then, "kick me in the nuts" I gotta row back to the landing.

Got home, put the gas motor on my little boat and headed over to the St. Croix for three hours of unproductive casting and trolling. Saw nothing. Then the rain came

Last Wednesday of the summer for my fishing partner and I. Tried a new, smaller lake. About the same results as the last month. Only two strikes. One hit away from the boat on a cowgirl, the other I had on for a moment before it shook - same cowgirl. Only action for us. Would've been nice, because I still haven't caught one a DCG.

Nobody fishin? - not many posts lately.

Fished WB friday night from 5-9 pm. There's a pretty good bloom starting up over the past couple days, heavier on the north side. Water temps 71-73. Moved two fish between 7 and 7:25 - right before moon rise. Both followed in fast, but a little late, and turned off quick near the boat. Both followed a traditional sized, single-colorado bucktail (purple Huntertail - my go-to bait on WB). Was switching back and forth with that and a similar colored DCG and moved nothing with the DCG.

Hopefully I'll get out fishing more now that the kids are back in school.

Sat on White Bear

Water temps 47-48

We missed a couple we should have had. We saw 5 fish, all BIG
we found them quite by accident as we drifted off the structure we were fishing. They were in 20-25' must have been suspended over the bait we were marking.

The feeding window was tight.

we had all our action in about a 1 hour window, and saw nothing for the other 4 hours.

Waconia Sunday afternoon 1-6p.m. 46.1-46.3 degree surface temps.

Temporarily hooked a 40ish on DCG on the North end in about 5 F.O.W. at about 1:40 p.m. Normal retrive and then a couple fast reels got him to jump the bait.

We stayed in 12 FOW for the day, fishing DCG's, Jimmy's, bass sized spinnerbaits, and suicks. Didn't see anything else until about 5:30. Follow on a DCG

Only saw 4 other boats out.

Sugar Lake, Wright Co. MN
10AM-6PM
water temp 48 degrees

Tough day, couldn't find fish probably should have trolled a bit.
Saw two low 40"fish on a glide bait of my own making. We were working the 12' range on the first one at about 1:45pm slow -turned away 10-15'from the boat. The other one came in bout 5' of water and appeared out of nowhere right near the boat. It disapeared as quickly as it showed up. This occurred about 15 minutes after the first one. Both fish were in the vicinity of the gravel bar.
Did manage to get the glider chomped by a 28-30" pike, don't know why the fish weren't in a more agressive mood? Nice to get out, but looking forward to some slow motion boatside violence. Perhaps next week, a return trip will find Sugar offering up a little morsel of her sweetness. Has anyone been out there lately? We did return to those fish toward sundown, and chucked about everything in the box at them.
