Is it possible to locate the thermocline using a Lowrance 334c depthfinder? I use the unit primarily to identify drop offs and other submerged structure, but am not clear on how to use it to identify the thermocline or if such a function is possible.

All you have to do is set the sensitivity high enough to detect the change in water density that occurs where there is a significant difference in water temperature. There's another post on this topic in the General Discussions Forum, page 3, entitled "Depthfinders".

Go to menu screen on the depthfinder screen and turn the sensitivity to manual. Then turn the sensitivity up till you get a bunch of clutter, typically in Trout lake in August at about 40 to 60 feetdown in 100 plus feet of water, but this can very widely with a lot of rain or cooler or warmer temps than usual. This also varies with the lake you are on. To reverse this just turn the sensitivity back to Auto.
