I am planning a trip to eagle lake for opener or the week after. Looking for cheap lodges. All i need is somewhere to sleep. Also wondering what part of the lake is best on opener. I'm thinking of getting a guide for the first day. I've never fished with one so that should be a great experience on a great lake.

I have been going to Island Lodge for years and found the service and prices to be the best on the lake. Located south of Temple Bay next to North Twin Island. Centrally located, reasonable housekeeping plan, great fishing. Park on the mainland approx. 5 mile boat ride to the island. Very secluded and quiet. Bring your own or rent from them, they do offer upgraded boats. Check out website, just google eagle lake island lodge. Every year I see more of Andy Meyer Guides down on this part of the lake pounding my spots. Thats a 20 plus mile run from their lodge. Should indicate the quality of musky in that part of the lake.

I grewup in the 70's fishing kimberly's on the west arm. I know they are very reasonable, might want to check them out.
Which end is the sucker on?

Just for thought, AML is all over the lake, in the years that I have been there I have seen the waterfalls at the very end of the west arm and also thrown casts at East long island and boulder bay! And probably gone farther towards osborn but I didnt recognise any thing after Lone Pine island. (we went farther and I lost my orientation, but the guide didnt) then next thing I am at east long island.

Why is it that I mention Big Eagle Lodge as the cheapest on Eagle Lake that it is deleated?

I'VE STAYED AT SOUTH SHORE LODGE A COUPLE OF TIMES & IT WAS NICE, CHEAP,CLEAN & FRIENDLY. I'VE SEEN SOME HUGE FISH BUT NEVER HOOKED THEM. I WENT ON THE OPENER WHICH IS THE 3RD WEEKEND OF JUNE. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT IS TOO EARLY FOR CANADA, I DON'T KNOW ??

opener week can be tough on some of the bigger lakes...Eagle is notoriously a slow starter, I know with the long winter we are having this year I am personally glad I won't be going until late July

Went to Andy Meyers last year in august. It was very nice, good food.
The guides were good for walleye, but not musky. 15 of our guys fished with guides the whole day and non caught a musky, nor did the guide.
We fished a rock wall and I caught a 47' and a 32, and my brother got a 35. Herbie said there weren't any fish there and don't waste you time. =]
