Fellow WAA guide Brett Jolly reports:

"This weekend provided excellent musky action on the Manitowish Chain. Fish from the mid 30inch to mid 40inch range were active in a variety of locations and on a variety of baits. Early in the day, fish were found working the weeds - spinners and topwaters were hot, baits such as Bootails, Slippery Sams, and Topraiders all produced.

Later, from mid-day untill evening the bite moved deep - deep points and deep mid lake humps held fish, crankbaits and plastics saw action. Musky Innovations Bulldawgs, and crankbaits such as Triple D's, Ernie's, and Depthraiders moved several fish. In addition to boating multiple fish, we raised several fish including one very large gal who just didn't want to eat."

The musky fishing remains pretty good, with a strong early and late bite for the fish relating to structure. Surface baits such as Super Freaks and Seducers have been working well as have bucktail style lures such as Bootails and Ducktails.

The suspended fish bite has been fair as of late. Crankbaits such as Ernies and Cisco Kids have been working, and some fish are also being caught working big rubber baits such as Bulldawgs and Big Joes out deep as well. Don't be afraid to throw a surface bait out over the "abyss" once in awhile as there have been some dandies taken on top over deep water already this year.

Fellow WAA guide Brett Jolly and I spent a little time in the Manitowish Waters area this past weekend. Fishing was pretty decent, at least during the morning and evening hours. Fishing slowed during the day so we decided to view the 'scenery' around ther chain and at the beach - what fine scenery it was too!

We hooked into our first musky about 10 minutes into the trip - the fish ate a Bootail on a figure eight. We proceeded to raise fish on crankbaits, Bootails, and spinnerbaits and Brett boated a beautifully marked fish on a figure eight with a Topraider. In addition to action from muskies, we also caught 2 "bonus" walleyes on musky crankbaits measuring 20" and 28".

Tight lines,

Joel

Is anyone fishing the chain I'm headed up there the 18th and I'll be up there for a week. Any info on Muskys would be greatly appreciated.
