Steve Heiting is the managing editor of Musky Hunter magazine. Although his home water is northern Wisconsin, Steve is a well-traveled angler and has caught big muskies from the northern-most musky lake in Ontario to as far south as Kentucky.

Steve is also co-owner of the University of Esox Musky Schools and conducts seminars for sport shows and fishing clubs throughout the Midwest. Each year he serves as the master of ceremonies for the National Championship Musky Open, the largest musky tournament in the world.

Steve has produced three instructional musky fishing DVDs: Trophy Musky Triggers was released in December 2005; Muskies: Any Time, Any Place in 2003; and Muskies On The Move in 2001. He has successfully fished numerous tournaments.

Steve has written two books. Steve’s second book, The Complete Guide to Musky Hunting, which he co-authored with Jim Saric, has just been released in its second edition. His first, Musky Mastery: The Techniques of Top Guides, sold out four printings and is currently out of print.

Steve's fishing tactics have been featured in articles in Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, Bass Pro Shops’ Outdoor World, and Wisconsin Outdoor News magazines; and was a featured guide in numerous books. In addition, Steve has edited nine musky fishing books. His articles and photographs have appeared in more than two dozen publications covering the outdoor sports. He is a contributing writer for Wisconsin Outdoor News.

Along with biologists and other conservtionists, Steve was appointed by the chairman of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress to serve on the Wisconsin Trophy Musky Ad Hoc Committee during an attempt to improve Wisconsin’s musky size limit structure.

An avid hunter, Steve's keen awareness of subtle changes in the environment have further heightened his success as a musky fisherman.

Steve is on the pro teams of Ranger, RangerTrail, Mercury, St. Croix, PowerPro, Mepps, Frabill, Heckel’s Eagle River Marine, Minn Kota and Humminbird.

Before joining Musky Hunter, Steve had worked for four years as editor of Wisconsin Outdoor Journal magazine. Prior to that, he worked for nine years as a newspaper editor, earning multiple awards from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in communication from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, graduating in 1982. A family man, Steve and his wife, Connie, have three children and one grandchild. They live near St. Germain, Wisconsin.
