Question for Musky Size Analysis Experts

This question is for Larry and anyone else who wants to chime in.
Switching gears away from pictures of caught muskies to video of lost muskies, can the type of scaling analysis that is done on photographs be done on paused frames of video?

Itís winter and Iím bored and the MH Show got me going. So, I watched some of my videos and I canít figure out why nobody ever talks about the last fish that Mehsikomer hooks and loses on his Close Encounters DVD? I realize that it's not a "caught" fish, but it is on video. I admit that I have only seen and held a few muskies over 30 pounds and maybe one that was 40, but that fish looks like nothing else I have ever seen in person or on TV. The width of the head as it grabs the Jackpot and then the girth as it jumps free seems crazy to me. You can see it in poor quality on the Simply Fishing website where it says ďView Muskie Matrix HereĒ, but you would need the Close Encounters DVD to really see it clearly.

Has anyone else seen this DVD and agree with me on the size of this fish???

Anyway, since the full Jackpot lure is clearly seen, and the fact that we know it is 7.5Ē long, could it be used to estimate the width and length of the fish if you pause the video frame by frame?

Iíd say the answer is yes. Iíd recommend DCM. They can do some remarkable work. All they need is a point on the lower jaw and the tail. Even though the tail may be out of sight under the water, locating that point should not be a problem. In the Spray report they were able to come up with Sprayís thumb length from one photo and use that thumb length to define the length of a fish in another photo to an accuracy of 0.05 inches. That was also a photo in which the thumb was hidden inside a leather work glove. They were also able to use the same technique in the Johnson report by locating a point on the lower jaw hidden by a hand and gaff to measure that fish. So, they would not have a problem locating the point on the tail.

Love the clip; can never watch it too many times. I really thought he was going to barf. I would have. 1:00-1:10 is probably a better sequence for size analysis.
The other one that I really love is from Muskies on the shield, where #### loses the Big One. Would be interesting to see a size analysis on that one too.

Thanks for finding that video site as you can really get a good look at it online. Since I have the Close Encounters DVD, I can do the same with my DVD player and my HD TV! I like the part where the top of head is barely under water right before it comes out and shakes it's 5 gallon bucket head.

I'm still wondering why so few "experts" will ever comment on this fish? I think it would be interesting to see what size they think it might be?
